  1. The Freestylers formed in 1996 when DJs and dance music producers Matt Cantor, Aston Harvey and (initially) Andrew Galea joined forces. All three of them had been involved in the British dance music scene since the 1980s. Cantor had recorded as Cut n’ Paste and Strike with Andy Gardner (Plump DJs). Aston Harvey recorded as Blapps! Posse best known for the 1990 breakbeat dance hit “Don’t Hold Back” before working with Definition of Sound, Rebel MC and DJ Rap (as DJ Rap and Aston). Harvey joined with Galea under the name Sol Brothers before Cantor was recruited to form the Freestylers. The group took their name from their first sample “Don’t Stop The Rock” by Freestyle.
  2. Club Vibes Nightlife Awards nominated Kit Kat for Electronic DJ of the Year in Vancouver. She was the runner up in that category, first place went to DJ SKLA for the second year in a row. As the name would suggest, Kit Kat’s heart lies with breakbeats, but being a lover of many forms of art, you can find her playing a finely tuned selection of house, downtempo, dnb, and anything with a funky beat. A lucky few have even seen her mix with her feet! 5. Spineshaker digs up the latest Stanton mixtape, just in time for the big show next week. Stanton Warriors hit Victoria BC at Sugar nightclub. Spineshaker crew will be "right thurr!". The Stanton Warriors have succeeded in not only bucking musical definition but have picked it up by the collar and kicked it's ass out of the music world. With their eclectic past and drawing on some traditional sounds of underground house, hip hop, electro and funk, they've mixed up the old and the new and come out with something bigger than the sum of its parts, namely the Stanton sound! Not many can claim to have defined a sound but Mark Yardley and Dominic B should definitely be there if there's ever a ruck on the subject. The Stanton Warriors have carefully honed a distinct sound that carves up dance floors through 4 corners of the world sounding fresh and bringing something new to the party. As Dom said at the start of it all when he first saw the reaction to one of their tracks at the Notting Hill Carnival 'Everybody was dancing'. We're a few years down the line but it's still about 'everybody' and 'dancing' - there's just more people at the party! Sorry no tracklisting!
